The purpose of Firefighter 2 is to identify emergency service personnel who demonstrate competency in the performance requirements necessary to perform the duties of a firefighter beyond the Fire Fighter I level. The NFPA 1001 Standard for Fire Fighter Professional Qualifications, identifies the minimum requirements for a person at the second level of progression. A person certified at the Fire Fighter II level will have demonstrated greater competency in the necessary knowledge and skills to function safely and effectively as a member of a firefighting team under general supervision.
